Four hurt in pot plantation fire, two jailed
Four people were wounded in a fire in a first-floor home on Witte de Withstraat in Amsterdam last night. The police arrested a 58 year old man and a 52 year old woman on suspicion of cannabis cultivation, AT5 reports.
The fire started in the house's kitchen around 20:15 last night. Among the wounded were the upstairs and downstairs neighbors and two police officers who were first on the scene. According to the fire department, the victims inhaled a lot of smoke. The two neighbors and one police officer were taken to the hospital for treatment.
After the fire was extinguished, two pot plantations were found in the house. One plantation completely burnt down, the other contained 72 plants. The two residents of the house, who had left the property when the fire started, were arrested on the street.
The fire department suspects that the fire was caused by the cannabis plantation in the kitchen. The police are investigating.
