Google taps new wind farm for data center power

Google has made an agreement with Eneco for the supply of green electricity. The internet giant will use the power from a new wind farm to feed its data center, which is still under construction, in Eemshaven. The agreement between Google and Eneco will start in 2016 and is valid for 10 years. Google will finance the wind farm near Delfzijl. The farm, currently being built on Eneco's order, consists of 19 turbines and has a capacity of 62 MW. The project should be completed in 18 months. In return for financing the project, Google wants to use the green power generated by the farm to feed its data center from the beginning of 2016. The data center is currently under construction in Eemshaven and will cost about 600 million euro. According to Eneco, this agreement proves that Google aims to be a CO2 neutral company.
