Google is going to expand its data center in Eemshaven, Groningen and is investing another 500 million euros in the complex, a spokesperson for the internet giant confirmed to NU.nl.
A power outage that hit airline KLM at Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, happened in the airline's data center, a KLM spokesperson said to the Telegraaf.
According to the spokesperson, the power outage only lasted 10 minutes. But something went wrong with the back up, and it took the system a long time to restart again. The airline is investigating what happened.
Solar park Sunport, the largest solar park in the Netherlands, will help power Google's data center. Power company Eneco and Google signed an agreement to that effect, Eneco announced on Friday. Both the solar park and data center are located in Eemshaven, NU.nl reports.
Sunport consists of 123 thousand solar panels on 30 hectares of ground. It generates about 27 gigawatt hours of solar power annually, enough to power 7,700 homes for a year.
AM4, the largest data center in Amsterdam and the largest in the Netherlands that can be used by multiple companies, opened its doors at the Science Park in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The new data center is owned by American company Equinix and was built in order to meet Amsterdam's growing demand for data traffic, AD reports.
Dutch businessman Rudy Stroink is being prosecuted for briging the director of Google, the Financieele Dagblad reports. According to the newspaper, Stroink paid 1.7 million euros in bribes in order to get the Google data center established in Eindhoven. He has to be in the court in Almelo on onday.
The network outage that took down Rijksoverheid.nl and many other government and private websites on Tuesday was caused by a Direct Denial of Service attack, the government revealed on Wednesday. As the takedown was happening on Tuesday, a representative of the National Cyber Security Center told the Telegraf that they had no evidence of a cyber attack.
Several websites were unreachable throughout Tuesday due to a fault at the hosting provider Prolocation. Unreachable websites include both the government's Dutch and English sites, Rijksoverheijd.nl and Government.nl, Dutch blog site GeenStijl.nl and telecommunication firm Telfort's site.
Google has made an agreement with Eneco for the supply of green electricity. The internet giant will use the power from a new wind farm to feed its data center, which is still under construction, in Eemshaven.
Google is investing €600 million into the construction of a massive data center in the Eemshaven, which will bring more than 1000 new jobs to Groningen, of which 150 permanent, Het Parool reports.
Due to a power outage in a data center at Schiphol some Dutch sites are inaccessible. The service interruption at Easynet company started this morning. It is unknown how many sites are affected.
