Pro ISIS rioter could get jail stint in journalist attack
On Monday the Public Prosecutor demanded a sex weeks prison sentence against a 29 year old man from the Hague for attacking a cameraman during the riots in Schilderwijk in August.
After which the man must serve another 100 days because he was paroled after a previous sentence. The camera man was beaten and kicked and his camera was destroyed.
The man and seven other suspects appeared in court on Monday for riots in Schilderwijk, the Hague, on August 10th. On that date demonstrators from the nationalist group Pro Partia walked through the predominantly Islamic neighborhood.
A 33 year old man threw stones at officers. The man says it was sand or clay. Justice wants 200 hours of community service and 2 months suspended prison sentence for this man. He was arrested during the riots but managed to escape when the arresting officer was hit in his jaw.
According to the Public Prosecutor the officer was hit by a 23 year old suspect. The prosecutor demanded 100 hours of community service and 2 weeks suspended prison sentence against him. The man, who has been silent through the proceedings, suddenly claimed that he has an alibi - he was at his football club in Rijswijk. His lawyer asked for acquittal.
Another suspect is a 26 year old father of three, who threw stones at officers. He says that he was trying to calm things down. "Swearing and throwing stones is antisocial. It does not fit my character or beliefs." He says that he traveled from Rotterdam to the Hague, despite his agoraphobia, to protect the elderly and children. "Pro Partia had not come to make peace."
Besides the alleged rioters, the owner of a supermarket on Hoefkade also appeared in court. He insulted patrolling officers. He says the insults were not directed to anyone in particular. The officer demanded a 200 euro fine.
Three boys of 17, 16 and 14 also appeared before the court. Two of them attacked the cameraman, the third threw stones. The juvenile court gave them community service of 100, 70 and 50 hours.
The court will rule against the adults on Tuesday.
