Workers taking salary cuts to keep jobs

Almost half of the employers in the Netherlands asked their staff to take a lower position and less salary last year. According to research done by payroll processor ADP, Berenschot and Performa Publishing, a quarter of the companies looked at other ways to cut down on the working conditions, such as fewer leave days and elimination of the 13th check. The majority of workers agree to a lower income, according to Hans van der Spek of consulting firm Berenschot. "We did not research that, but other polls show that most employees are will to compromise on their salaries if they keep their jobs." Despite the slight recovery in the economy, many employees still fear eminent reorganizations.
