Monster truck driver speaks for 1st time

The 50-year-old stuntman Mario D., who drove the monster truck in Haaksbergen involved in the tragic accident, has broken his silence for the first time. In a statement, he, his wife and children want to offer their sympathy to the victims, De Telegraaf reports. The driver wishes that public attention will go toward the victims and surviving relatives, out of respect for them, rather than the question of guilt. The lawyer of Mario D. and his family, Rob Oude Breuil, speaks for his clients, saying that they are distraught at what has happened. "This is something that nobody wanted." The investigation into the tragedy is ongoing. The driver has been questioned, and there was some speculation about the driver's physical state. Lawyer Breuil says that heart disease or an epileptic attack have been ruled out. Three people were killed in the accident, and 40 other injured. Most of these patients have now left the hospital, while 13 are still in treatment, six men and seven women including two children. Five victims are still in critical condition.
