Netherlands remembers favorite musician Andre Hazes on 10-yr anniversary

Tuesday the 23rd of September is the tenth anniversary of the death of Dutch folk singer and national institution André Hazes. In commemoration of the star's mark on the Dutch music landscape, there will be various opportunities for fans to remember him, RTL Nieuws reports. Radio station 100%NL will play André Hazes' songs, and Martijn Fischer, who has been playing the leading role in the musical about the Amsterdam singer's life, will present Hazes' top six hits. According to a poll from the Algemeen Dagblad, 17 percent of the 43,623 people asked think 'Bloed, Zweet en Tranen' (Blood, sweat and tears) is the singer's best song. Book shops will be selling a new biography about the Dutch icon. On television, stations NPO and AVROTROS will commemorate André Hazes this weekend, showing documentaries about the singer in which his family members look back at his life and work. On Sunday, Hazes will be the central figure in the first episode of a program about the best singers of The Netherlands. Hazes, born in 1951, recorded 31 studio and live albums, and released 54 singles. He passed away in 2004 from heart failure.
