Arrested terrorist has Den Haag connection

A 29-year-old Angolan-Dutch man was picked up in Portugal on suspicion of terrorism. It is now clear that the man was active in Den Haag, and was even barred from several mosques in the Hofstad several years ago, according to sources from Trouw, including the well-known Salafist As-Sunnah mosque.

It is unclear what the man was doing in Portugal, but sources know that the man is part of a notorious group of Dutch jihadis. Four other members of this group were arrested in Kenya in 2009, as they were on their way to Somalia for terrorism training.

These men were not prosecuted when they were eventually sent back to The Netherlands, however. According to the Trouw sources, the Angolan man in question admitted that he has traveled to a terrorist training camp in Syria.
