A 60-year-d Dutch man was found dead in a home in Portugal on Thursday. Traces of violence was found on his body and murder is suspected. The police are investigating, the Telegraaf reports.

The man's body was found in his home in Sito do Barranco Novo, in Vila do Bispo in the Portuguese Algarve. He was last seen alive at a party over the weekend. A friend called the police after they were unable to reach him for days.

According to reports in local media, the man had injuries to his face and head. The police believe he died at least 24 hours before his body was found.

Customs officers found approximately 1 thousand kilograms of cocaine during a check at the port of Rotterdam on Friday, February 7th. The drugs were hidden in a container loaded with bananas from Ecuador, the Public Prosecution Service said on Wednesday.

The cargo arrived at the port of Rotterdam early last week on a ship from Costa Rica. The bananas were destined for a company in Portugal. The Dutch authorities does not believe the Portuguese company had anything to do with the drug trafficking.

The drugs were confiscated and destroyed.

The Dutch State is partly responsible for a plane crash in Faro in 1992 in which 57 people were killed and 106 seriously injured, the court in The Hague ruled on Wednesday. Survivors of the disaster and victims' relatives have been litigating against the State for years in an attempt to find out the causes of the disaster, AD reports.

The 2018-2019 UEFA Nations League final was a disappointing blow for the Dutch men's national football team, which lost 1-0 to host nation Portugal. Oranje managed to a greater share of possession, but far fewer shots on goal and far more fouls than their rivals.

When asked if it was a tough loss, star Dutch player Matthijs de Ligt agreed it was disappointing, saying to broadcaster NOS, "Yeah, you want to win a final." He also called Portugal a very difficult team.

A new key suspect in the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007, was once also a suspect in the murder of Dutch boy Nicky Verstappen in 1998, the Telegraaf reports.

The suspect in question is 48-year-old German pedophile Matin Ney. He was sentenced to life in prison for abducting and murdering three German boys in 1992, 1995 and 2001, and sexually abusing dozens of other children, according to news.com.au. Ney was in Portugal working on a project for homeless people when Maddie McCann disappeared, according to the news site.

Ryanair cabin crew members in Belgium, Spain and Portugal will be striking next week Wednesday and Thursday. As a result, the Irish budget airline is canceling around 600 flights, including some to and from the Netherlands. Around 50 thousand passengers will be affected, Ryanair said.

A yacht carrying 1,400 kilograms of cocaine was intercepted at the Azores, a group of islands that's an autonomous region of Portugal. The three people on board, a Dutch man, a Brit and a Croatian, were arrested, NOS reports.

The ship, sailing under the banner of the British Virgin Islands, was on its way fro the Caribbean to Europe. It was intercepted south of the island of Faial.

The arrests were a joint action by the British and Portuguese authorities.

Dozens of flights to and from the Canary Islands had to land at other airports on Sunday due to severe storms on the islands. Heavy rains an winds over 100 kilometers per hour made it impossible for flights to land on or take off from the islands during the afternoon. Many hundreds of Dutch holiday makers were affected, AD reports.

Flightradar24 shows that many flights had to move to Morocco and Faro in Portugal. These detours affected hundreds of Dutch tourists using airlines TUI and Transavia, according to the newspaper.

A Dutch tourist was arrested in Portugal on Monday for attempting to rape a 9-year-old girl in a busy E. Leclerc supermarket in the city of Lamego, AD reports.

The suspect is a 35-year-old man who lives in Germany, but has Dutch nationality. He lured the girl to the supermarket's bathroom by pretending to be a shop employee, according to the newspaper. The girl's father noticed that she was gone and searched the store until he heard shouting from the bathrooms. He forced the door and caught the Dutch man red handed, AD reports.

A group of 200 Dutch tourists are among thousands stuck on the Portuguese island of Madeira since Saturday. The flight set to bring the Dutch tourists home couldn't take off from Funchal Airport on Saturday due to heavy winds. An airplane sent to pick up the stranded tourists on Monday tried to land three times in vain, a spokesperson for TUI said to the Telegraaf.

Dozens of flights had to be canceled because the planes couldn't land or takeoff due to the weather. A total of around 6 thousand people are stranded on the island.

Portugal can count on the Netherlands for help in dealing with the aftermath of massive forest fires that killed 62 people in the country over the weekend, Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs said to his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva. A bus driver who caused an accident in Portugal in 2015 with a bus full of Dutch tourists was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of four Dutch tourists. He was given a suspended prison sentence of three years and 10 months by the court in Portimao on Tuesday, the Volkskrant reports.

Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Eurogroup chairman and departing Finance Minister, is facing fire over statements made about southern European countries in an interview with the Frankfurter Allegemeine on Monday.

In the interview he said that he finds the Stability Pact, which contains the EU budget rules, very important. He praised the "northern countries" for showing "solidarity" with "crisis countries", but that comes with "responsibilities", he said. Dutch teens Femke Lucas and Sam Bruijs are back home in Bergen op Zoom and reunited with their parents, according to Dutch newspaper AD. The two 16-year-old girls disappeared on Tuesday and were finally found in Portugal on Saturday.
