Another Transavia flight canceled: Dutch stuck on Faro airport since Monday
An increasingly frustrated group of Dutch travelers is still stuck at Faro Airport in Portugal after their Transavia flight to Eindhoven got canceled on Monday. Replacement flights scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday morning have now also been canceled, Hart van Nederland reports.
About 170 travelers are affected. Their flight to Eindhoven departed on schedule at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, but after 20 minutes in the air, the pilot returned to Faro due to an engine malfunction.
Passengers told Hart van Nederland that they sat on the plane for four hours before the flight was eventually canceled. “We received no information, no food, and nothing to drink. After much nagging, we were given a glass of water,” passenger Jolie told the program.
When the flight was eventually canceled, passengers had to find their own accommodation without reimbursement. Some ended up sleeping at the airport. “It’s scorching hot here, we don’t have any clean clothes left. We just want to go home,” passenger Marlies said.
Replacement flights on Tuesday were also canceled. Then the affected travelers received a 15 euro voucher and the promise that they would fly back to the Nehterlands on Wednesday morning. But that flight also did not happen.
Transavia told Hart van Nederland on Tuesday that it was prioritizing safety. The engine malfunction proved more difficult to resolve than expected, the airline said. “We recognize that communication could have been better and that this had a significant impact. Our teams tried to arrange accommodations, but due to the high season, availability was very limited. That is not the service we want to provide.”
It is unclear when the stranded travelers will return to Eindhoven.
