Greenpeace team arrested in oil ship blockade

Police have ended a Greenpeace action in the harbor of Ijmuiden. The environmental activists' group held the Saturn drilling platform to the pier with chains, to prevent the platform from going to the North Pole region for the Russian state company Gazprom, the NOS reports. The blockade was performed by 30 activists of Greenpeace. Six of these activists tied themselves to the platform. In the end, they went voluntarily with the police and have been apprehended for ignoring an emergency command. The oil field where Gazprom wants to install the oil rig is next to the area where Greenpeace protested last year. At that time, 30 activists were arrested on the Arctic Sunrise, including the Dutch Faiza Oulahsen and Mannes Ubels. They were held for two months. Despite yesterday's protests, the oil rig Saturn has been taken in the direction of the North Pole.
