Man in court for 1999 murder

A DNA-match resulted in the prosecution of a 37-year-old suspect, who murdered a staff member of a Shoarma business on the Amsterdamsestraatweg in Utrecht, on November 9, 1999. The prosecution demanded 13 years in prison.

The staff member was stabbed several times with a knife, killing him, and money was missing from the till. The DNA sample, collected from the blood that was found in several places at the crime scene, finally resulted in a match when the suspect was busted for a burglary in 2011. DNA sampling, ordered in 2012, matched with the DNA found at the Utrecht crime scene. Despite the suspect's ever-changing statements, the evidence clearly points to the suspect, according to the prosecution. The crime may not be recent, the punishment remains the same.
