Jansen Steur prosecuted in Germany

The Public Prosecution in Mainz started a judicial follow-up on former neurologist, Ernst Jansen Steur, who was sentenced to three years in prison in the Netherlands, Tuesday. Steur is suspected of causing grievous bodily harm to a patient in Worms.

The Dutch lawsuit prevented the German course of proceedings until now. The Germans may ask for Steur to be extradited so he can be prosecuted in Germany, or his case can be transferred to the Netherlands. Steur's lawyer already announced they will likely appeal the Dutch court's decision, so the German prosecution wants to at least wait until the Dutch court case is settled. Between 2005 and 2013, after Steur was fired from the Medical Spectrum Twente in 2003, the neurologist worked in several different German hospitals, sometimes under forged names. He would move on every time he was exposed. The board of medical examiners imposed an occupational ban on Jansen Steur in December, who appealed their decision.
