Concerns about Dutch prisoner in Egypt
The Netherlands expressed concerns to Egypt about the poor conditions in which Dutch national Ahmed Diini is being detained, wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Diini's lawyer, André Seebregts. The 25-year-old Ahmed Diini has been jailed since last summer on suspicion of terrorism. He was transferred to another part of the Tora prison in Cairo early December.

Diini has not received any more visits from the Dutch embassy since his transfer. The ambassador did, however, meet with the warden to request some necessities, such as a blanket and vitamins for Diini. If all goes well, Diini will receive the goods on Friday, during the next visit. This is not fast enough, according to Seebregts. 'The blanket at least is very welcome. It's very cold, since it's winter. He sleeps on the ground and does not have a lot of warm clothes,' said Seebregts. Diine went into hunger and thirst strike in November to attract attention to his condition. The ministry wrote the situation and circumstances are being monitored through an ongoing communication with Egyptian authorities. The Ministry also stays in touch with the Egyptian lawyer of Diini, concerning his health. A report from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently showed that Diini had been seen by a physician and that his health was fine, wrote the Ministry.
