Fired whistleblower mosque-boarding goes to court

A Rotterdam official who was fired because he allegedly leaked confidential information about potential fire safety hazards at mosque-boarding takes his case to court. He wants his resignation to be suspended. In the proceedings he will challenge his dismissal, according to his lawyers Frank van Ardenne and Anja Hoffmans, Wednesday. The trial date has not been set yet.

The city of Rotterdam reported the leaking of information and the secret recording of conversations between officials during a meeting in February. According to the information town mosques were allowed to ignore fire safety rules for years. There was even mention of undue political pressure.

A spokesperson for councilor Richard Moti announced the City can not comment on the case as long as the procedure is ongoing.
