Amsterdam Summer Terrace Expansion

If the temperature rises above 28 degrees, the terraces in the center of Amsterdam may be allowed to expand.

As the high heat continues, Amsterdam's center district operates under a tropical weather scenario. This provides restaurants and cafes with a permit for a terrace the opportunity to add more tables and chairs to their patio from 10am onwards.

Safety for pedestrians and residents is of primary importance, and no dangerous situations may occur because of the terrace extension. The city claims that will be strictly monitored. Every day the municipality of Amsterdam decides if the tropical weather scenario will apply for the next day. Restaurants and cafes who do not have a permit for a terrace may use these conditions to also put one or two tables outside at the front of their establishment, provided they abide by the same rules.
