AH Workers on Strike

Approximately 250 staff of Albert Heijn distribution centers, all seeking a better contract, participated in a protest march on Tuesday in Amsterdam. According to Netherlands’ biggest employee trade union Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging (FNV) the strikes that started last week are now getting visible in the supermarkets. BNdeStem.nl reports that Albert Heijin contradicts this, and states that only eleven percent of the distribution staff is on strike, and that "fortunately, most employees are still working." At 11am the march left from de Nieuwmarkt to demand a discussion with Ahold’s CEO Dick Boer at Albert Heijn’s head office on the Piet Heinkade. The CEO did not react, with a spokesman for Albert Heijn later stating that the distributor's actions did not impress the company.
