1 dead, multiple injured in 3-truck crash on A17 near Moerdijk
A person died and multiple others were injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving three trucks on the A17 highway near Moerdijk. One truck was on fire on the roadway but was extinguished.
Two people were trapped inside one of the trucks but have since been freed by firefighters, Omroep Brabant reported. The occupant of the burning truck got out on their own.
Authorities said it was not yet clear what exactly caused the crash or how many people were hurt. The accident occurred around 4:15 p.m. near Exit 27 at Moerdijk. Emergency crews responded in large numbers, and two trauma helicopters landed on the highway.
The A17 is closed in the direction of Breda on Tuesday. A detour was put in place via the Haringvliet Bridge along the A59 and A29. The ANWB said the road would remain closed until 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
