KNMI issues nationwide code yellow for thunderstorms, hail, strong winds
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued a nationwide code yellow warning on Tuesday afternoon, as scattered thunderstorms are expected to move across the country with potential hail and strong wind gusts.
The warning takes effect at 3 p.m. and is expected to remain in place until 9 p.m., according to KNMI. The weather institute said the most severe storms will gradually clear later in the evening.
The thunderstorms may produce hailstones up to about 2 centimeters in diameter and wind gusts reaching approximately 60 kilometers per hour. The gusts are expected to come from a southwesterly direction.
KNMI issues a code yellow alert when there is a chance of hazardous weather conditions. The institute advised people to remain alert, especially if traveling.
