Two men killed in head-on collision between car and motorcycle in Eerbeek
Two men, ages 19 and 57, were killed Friday night in a head-on collision between a car and a motorcycle on the Harderwijkerweg between Eerbeek and Laag-Soeren, police said.
The crash occurred at about 11:15 p.m., de Gelderlander reports. The motorcyclist, a 57-year-old man from Haren in the municipality of Groningen, and the car driver, a 19-year-old man from Eerbeek, both died at the scene. No other occupants were involved.
According to a witness, the crash began during a passing maneuver by the car. “The car overtook me coming from the direction of Eerbeek,” the witness said. “Shortly afterward, the driver ended up in the roadside verge and lost control of the steering.”
The witness added: “I immediately called 112 and ran toward the victims, but I could see right away that it was very serious.”
Police said the car crossed into the oncoming lane after the driver lost control. A motorcycle approaching from the direction of Laag-Soeren then collided head-on with the car. The impact pushed the car into the bushes off the road, scattering debris across the roadway.
Emergency services responded in large numbers but were unable to save either man, police said. Both died from their injuries at the scene. Their families have been informed. The Harderwijkerweg was fully closed overnight for police investigation.
