Amsterdam’s first VR museum opens its doors today

ENTR, Amsterdam’s first virtual reality museum, opened its doors on Thursday. At the museum, with the help of some VR glasses, you enter the Amsterdam of 1652 and can experience what life was like in the Dutch capital 374 years ago.

In the interactive experience, visitors can follow one of three Amsterdam dwellers from 1652 - a craftswoman, a whaler, and a printer. The experience takes visitors to Dam Square, where the Waag once stood, the ship docks at the IJ, and the printing presses.

The experience was developed in collaboration with historians. “Every detail, from the sound of the harbor to the colors of pigment, brings 17th-century Amsterdam to life,” the city of Amsterdam said. “Amsterdam 1652 is not an exhibition you look at, but a world you enter together. A city full of stories. Experience them together in VR.”

ENTR is located on Oosterdokskade and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets start at €18. The experience takes about 45 minutes.
