Koningsnacht set to bring nationwide celebrations ahead of Koningsdag on Monday
Koningsnacht begins Sunday evening, April 26, with parties, festivals, and club nights taking place all over the country as Dutch cities prepare for Koningsdag on Monday, April 27, when the royal family will travel to Dokkum in Fryslân for the official national celebration. Street parties will be held across the country to mark King Willem-Alexander's birthday, with public markets, concerts, and open-air events filling city centers and smaller neighborhoods alike.
In Amsterdam, Koningsnacht will feature widespread nightlife programming across multiple districts. Events will take place at locations including Westerpark, Het Sieraad in Amsterdam-West, and the Jordaan. Clubs such as Levenslang will remain open until 5:00 a.m., while Radion will continue until 8:00 a.m. Outdoor music and food events will also be held in areas including the NDSM-werf and Amstelveld. Authorities will enforce strict rules on alcohol sales, amplified music, and crowd control throughout the night.
Koningsdag in Amsterdam will continue with street markets from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Public transport will operate on a special schedule, with no trams running in the city center and several stations closed.
In The Hague, Koningsnacht will center on the free festival “THE LIFE I LIVE,” starting at 7:00 p.m. on Lange Voorhout. The event will feature nearly 30 acts across six stages, with performances spanning pop, indie rock, hip-hop, and electronic music.
Additional programming will take place at Amare, including a “Minimal Rave” classical-electronic performance, while venues such as PIP and Paard will host electronic music events and afterparties.
In Arnhem, Koningsnacht will run from 2:00 p.m. until midnight on April 26, followed by Koningsdag from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Road closures will affect the city center for both days, with parking restrictions, traffic diversions, and limited access to key areas.
Public transport routes will be adjusted, and several parking facilities will be partially or fully unavailable. Alcohol sales restrictions will apply from April 26 in the afternoon through April 28 in the morning. Authorities will also enforce rules on terrace use, waste disposal, and public music.
Across the country, smaller cities and regional areas will also host Koningsnacht and Koningsdag events, including local music programming, street gatherings, and temporary festival zones. Many municipalities have implemented restrictions on alcohol sales, amplified sound, and crowd sizes, with additional enforcement focused on public safety and clean-up operations.
Free markets, concerts, and neighborhood festivals will take place in both urban and regional areas, with transport adjustments and crowd management measures in effect nationwide.
On Koningsdag, the royal family will travel to Dokkum in Fryslân, where King Willem-Alexander and his family will arrive at 11:00 a.m. at the Bonifatiuskapel. From there, Friese horses will escort them toward the city center, where singer Elske DeWall will welcome them from the water.
The royal program will follow a structured walking route through the city, featuring cultural demonstrations, local sports, historical references to the Elfstedentocht, regional food presentations, and performances involving residents and organizations from Noardeast-Fryslân. The route will include stops such as “Yn Beweging,” “Brûsplak,” “Quiz Wad’n Taal,” “52 Doarpen,” and a final celebration at De Helling, where the royal family will conclude the visit with music and a public toast.
