Gas cylinder accident during pancake baking at Oosterhout school; 7 hurt, incl. 4 kids
Seven people, including four children, were injured at a school in Oosterhout, Noord-Brabant, on Friday. According to Veiligheidsregio Midden- en West-Brabant, there was an accident with a gas cylinder while making pancakes.
All seven victims sustained burns and were treated at the scene by paramedics, reported the Veligheidsregio, the office that covers the local emergency services. One was transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
The accident happened at a vocational school on Nassaustraat. According to NOS, the school also offers cooking classes to students between 12 and 18 years old. The accident happened in the school’s kitchen.
What exactly happened is unclear. The Veiligheidsregio initially reported that the gas cylinder exploded, but later said that this appeared not to be the case.
The blast caused a fire, but emergency services quickly extinguished it. The authorities are investigating what happened.
