Dutch companies evacuate non-essential staff from Middle East amid war

Several Dutch companies, including Boskalis, Shell, and TenneT, have repatriated non-essential personnel and their families from the Middle East following the outbreak of war in the region, FD reports. The evacuations were voluntary, and exact numbers of staff involved have not been disclosed.

Shell offered employees who could work remotely the option to leave the region with their families. A company spokesperson said, “The safety of our people remains our highest priority.” Shell has staff stationed in Qatar, among other locations, but the company did not specify how many employees took part in the evacuation.

Boskalis also retrieved personnel from the area. A spokesperson stated, “Our initial focus was on bringing back visitors and colleagues with families who wanted to leave the region.”

Like Shell, participation was voluntary, and fewer than half of the company’s Middle East staff used the program. No specific figures were provided. TenneT has similarly taken steps to repatriate employees, though details on the numbers or locations affected were not provided.
