Mild March expected to bring early spring, frosty nights, and allergy alerts
The Netherlands is entering March with unusually mild and mostly sunny conditions, bringing early spring weather and rising pollen levels that could trigger hay fever, Weeronline reports.
Meteorologists report that daytime temperatures in the first weeks of March are expected to reach 11 to 16 degrees, with southern regions occasionally experiencing slightly warmer conditions. “It’s wonderful weather to spend time outdoors,” forecasters said, noting the region will enjoy several pleasant spring days.
Despite the warmth, nights and early mornings may still experience frost in some areas. Local fog or mist is also possible, though morning sunshine is expected to clear it faster than in winter months.
The second half of March will continue to feature mild and dry conditions, although occasional showers cannot be ruled out. Weather maps reportedly indicate that temperatures will return to the March average of 10 to 12 degrees near the end of the month, coinciding with typically dry periods offering sunny skies.
The early spring weather is also expected to influence health. Increased sunlight will boost vitamin D production, but pollen levels will rise as well.
Tree pollen, including alder, spreads more easily in dry, sunny conditions. By late March, birch trees may begin to bloom, heightening the risk of more severe hay fever symptoms.
