European Sleeper launching its Amsterdam-Milan night train in June
European Sleeper will launch its night train between Amsterdam and Milan on June 18 next year, the Dutch-Belgian rail company announced.
Passengers will be able to board three times a week in Amsterdam or Brussels, on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. In Germany, the two train sections will be linked, and they’ll continue to Milan, stopping in Cologne, Bern, Brig, and Stresa. Return trips from Milan are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
“The timetable isn’t completely finalized yet, but departure from Amsterdam will likely be around 7:00 p.m.,” Chris Engelsman of European Sleeper told NOS. “The plan is to arrive in Milan before 10:00 a.m., but we don’t have definitive times in Italy yet.”
Each trip can accommodate 500 to 600 people, depending on the number of carriages. Options include seating and sleeping cars with a choice of three- and five-person compartments.
According to Engelsman, a one-way ticket to Milan in a basic sleeper car will cost an average of €80.
European Sleeper has been operating night trains between Amsterdam and Berlin, Dresden, and Prague since 2023. From March next year, the company will also run night trains on the Paris-Berlin route. And a night connection to Barcelona will launch in 2027 or 2028.
With the Amsterdam-Milan night train, the Netherlands is getting three new international train connections next year. Earlier this week, GoVolta announced it will launch train services from Amsterdam to Berlin and Hamburg in March. On the Amsterdam-Berlin route, GoVolta will compete with European Sleeper and NS. There is currently no direct connection to Hamburg.
