Swimming instructor in Noord-Brabant town arrested for sex crime
A 44-year-old employee of the municipality of Meijerstad was arrested last week for a sex crime. Sources told Omroep Brabant that the man was a swimming instructor at De Neul swimming pool in Sint Oedenrode.
The police arrested the man at his home last Tuesday. They did not say exactly what the man is suspected of, only that it is a sexual offense. Investigators seized his data carriers, like laptops and phones.
The mayor of Meijerstad informed the municipal council last week that a municipal employee had been arrested for a sex offense. The municipality owns De Neul swimming pool. According to the broadcaster, concerned parents trying to contact the pool are immediately referred to the municipality.
It is not clear what type of abuse is involved or where the sex crime happened. Sources at the pool told Omroep Brabant that they can’t imagine that it happened at the pool because there are many measures in place to keep everyone safe.
“The four-eyes principle always applies here,” said one person involved. “It’s almost impossible to be alone with the children.” Staff are never allowed to be alone with children; there are cameras everywhere, and parents can keep an eye on the pool through a large window.
Residents of Sint-Oedenrode told the broadcaster that the suspected man is a local who is known to be active in volunteer work.
The man is in custody and will appear in court for a remand hearing on Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing.
