Gusts up to 100 km/h expected in the Netherlands on Thursday
Tuesday’s wet, chilly, and windy weather will be a precursor to a real, stormy autumn day expected in the Netherlands on Thursday. There is a chance of strong winds along the coast on Thursday, maybe with gusts topping 100 kilometers per hour, meteorologist Stefan van der Gijze told Hart van Nederland.
The KNMI also warns of potentially strong winds along the coast on Thursday, but adds that the weather picture is still very uncertain. The United Kingdom’s Met Office reported that gusts of 99 km/h could sweep across parts of southern England on Tuesday morning.
Tuesday in the Netherlands will be partly cloudy with scattered showers across the country, but a chance of some sunny spells in the afternoon. Maximums will climb to around 15 degrees, with a moderate southwesterly wind that may be strong along the coast and the IJsselmeer. This evening, a few showers will cross the west and north of the country.
Wednesday will see some calmer weather, with many places remaining dry. Maximums will again climb to around 15 degrees, but the wind will be much less noticeable.
On Thursday, the wind will be back. According to meteorologist Van der Gijze, storms of force 9 are possible along the coasts, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h. Elsewhere in the country, the wind won’t be as strong, but heavy rain is expected.
The strong winds could last into Friday, but after that, the stormy weather will die down, according to the KNMI. Friday and the weekend will still be wet, however, and noticeably colder, with maximums around 11 and 12 degrees.
