Police shoot dog after It attacks owners in Zoetermeer

Police in Zoetermeer shot and killed a dog that attacked its owners, leaving them seriously injured, authorities said.

The incident occurred during the night between Friday and Saturday on the Shetland street in Zoetermeer, Zuid-Holland. The dog reportedly bit its owners severely, prompting emergency medical attention. Both victims were transported to a hospital for treatment.

A police spokesperson told ANP that the dog may have escaped from its enclosure. Two other dogs were present in the home at the time. “Unfortunately, we had to shoot the animal in the garden,” the police said in a statement on X.

Under Dutch law, municipalities can impose measures such as requiring a muzzle for dogs after serious biting incidents. In extreme cases, authorities may order a dog to be euthanized.
