Video: Car smashes through Hulst home, driver under influence and loses license

A 20-year-old man from Hulst drove his car straight through the front door of a house on Havikdijk early Saturday morning, leaving the home heavily damaged and forcing firefighters to stabilize the facade with a support pole, Omroep Zeeland reported.

The crash happened at about 1:40 a.m., when the car struck the front of the house at full force. Police said the driver managed to crawl out of the wreck before briefly losing consciousness. Firefighters, working with a towing company, pulled the wrecked vehicle from the home.

The driver later regained awareness and failed a breath test, which showed he was under the influence. His license was seized, and the Central Bureau for Driving Proficiency (CBR) was notified to review whether he is fit to drive.

About 20 minutes earlier, police reported another collision on the N290 between two cars. One of the vehicles, the same make as the one that hit the house, drove off after the crash. No one was injured, and the other driver filed a police report. Investigators are examining whether the car that struck the house was involved in both incidents.
