Remnants of Hurricane Humberto to hit the Netherlands on Saturday; Gusts up to 85 km/h

Strong winds are expected on Saturday due to the remnants of Hurricane Humberto. Morning gusts are expected to reach 75 to 85 kilometers per hour, accompanied by heavy rain. Another peak in wind gusts is forecast for late afternoon and early evening, with the northwest potentially experiencing severe gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour.

By Sunday, winds are expected to subside, bringing relatively calm weather inland, according to the weather service. The coast will still experience strong winds at times, reaching force 7, which can lead to dangerous conditions, such as falling trees and damage to buildings.

Throughout the weekend, rain and sunshine will alternate. Saturday is expected to bring extended periods of rain, with rainfall potentially reaching 50 millimeters over 48 hours.

Earlier this week, Humberto was active over the Atlantic Ocean as a Category 3 hurricane, with wind speeds around 180 kilometers per hour. The storm is heading north, affecting the United Kingdom the most, even though it is no longer officially classified as a hurricane.

Confusion has arisen over the storm’s name. While tropical systems usually retain their names when heading toward Europe, the UK Met Office has named this one “Amy,” which has caused mix-ups since the name “Amy” was already used in the media for a different storm.
