Police close case into three found dead in Alkmaar family home; No prosecutions expected
Those in the Netherlands in life threatening danger should immediately dial 112 for emergencies, and anyone suffering from depression or contemplating suicide can call 113 Zelfmoordpreventie at any time by dialing either 113 or 0800-0113, or by visiting 113.nl.
The police investigation into the deaths of three people whose remains were found inside a home in Alkmaar has been completed, and no suspects will be prosecuted in connection with the matter, a police spokesperson confirmed to ANP on Friday. The police communications office has continued to refuse requests for information about their identities since the bodies were discovered on Wednesday. A few details are still being assessed by investigators to provide answers to questions from surviving relatives.
Neighbors told reporters that the residence was home to a young man and woman, and their toddler. Police have yet to confirm whether they were the three people found dead at the location on Stikkelwaard.
The cause and manner of the deaths has not been revealed, but the police department included a reference to the 113 Suicide Prevention hotline in a news release distributed this week. A spokesperson reiterated on Friday that the police investigation has not found any evidence to suggest that another individual was involved in the deaths of the three people found inside.
A cleaner who helped the family tidy up the home reportedly called police at about 11 a.m. when she was unable to gain entry into the Alkmaar-Noord residence. The first responding officers found the deceased, prompting emergency services to dispatch forensic investigators to process the scene, and firefighters to help close the street. Mental health workers also arrived to help the first responders deal with the trauma.
A community policing officer in Alkmaar is still receiving many questions from concerned neighbors about the grim discovery, a police spokesperson told ANP. "We understand there are questions, but out of respect for the bereaved we will not be providing any further information," police wrote in a statement on the day of the incident. The spokesperson repeated that point when asked by ANP.
"They seemed normal. I always said 'hello,' and they said 'hello' back in a friendly way," one neighbor told the Telegraaf about the family who lived on the street. Since the start of the investigation, the municipality has been active in the neighborhood to address concerns about the "horrific" events.
"At the moment, these are mainly individual conversations," the spokesperson said. A further community meeting may be organized at a later date.
