Netherlands braces for heavy showers, wind gusts up to 90 km/h

Residents across the Netherlands should prepare for unsettled weather this week, with strong winds, heavy showers, and occasional sunshine expected to affect large parts of the country, according to weeronline.

On Sunday, skies will clear gradually in most areas after morning showers in the north. Sunshine will dominate in the north, while elsewhere clouds will increase from the southwest by the afternoon. Temperatures will reach 19 to 20 degrees, with a moderate southwesterly wind, increasing to strong near the coast.

By tonight, rain will spread from the southwest, accompanied by rising winds. Coastal areas and the Wadden Islands will face a strong to stormy wind, reaching 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale, with gusts up to 85 km/h.

Inland, the southwesterly wind will be pretty strong, with gusts possible. Thunderstorms and heavy rain may occur in some areas, and nighttime temperatures will fall to 14–16 degrees.

Monday will remain stormy, especially along the coast, with strong to stormy southwesterly winds and gusts up to 90 km/h. Showers will continue, with some locally heavy, accompanied by brief thunderstorms. Temperatures are expected around 20 degrees, slightly higher in the south, slightly cooler near the coast.

Tuesday, Prinsjesdag—the annual ceremonial opening of the Dutch parliamentary year—will see somewhat calmer but still breezy conditions.

According to another report by weeronline, easterly winds will start fairly strong, later easing to moderate levels. Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, interspersed with periods of sunshine. Temperatures in The Hague will reach around 18 degrees, with most of the country seeing 17–18 degrees.

Later in the week, showers will persist on Wednesday, accompanied by moderate to fairly strong southwesterly winds, especially near the coast.

From Thursday onward, weather is reportedly set to gradually improve, with fewer showers, more sunshine, and temperatures rising to 20–22 degrees, slightly above the seasonal norm of 17–19 degrees.
