Man killed after being hit by car at a road crossing in Zwijndrecht

A man died Friday afternoon after being struck by a car at a crossing on the Lindtsedijk in Zwijndrecht, police said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection with Amerweg, AD reported. Emergency responders began resuscitation efforts immediately, but the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the car was unharmed, though the vehicle sustained heavy damage in the collision.

Police specialists are investigating the cause of the accident, including whether the man was crossing the Lindtsedijk on his bicycle or walking it across at the time of the crash.
