2.4 million foreign tourists stayed in Netherlands in June; Sharp rise from last year

Dutch hotels and holiday parks welcomed nearly 2.4 million foreign guests in June. That is a sharp increase from the same month last year, when 1.9 million tourists from abroad stayed in Dutch accommodations, AD reports based on data requested from Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

“A significant increase,” CBS researcher Luuk Hovius told the newspaper. “The highest we’ve seen since the coronavirus pandemic.”

Tourists from abroad booked a total of nearly 7 million overnight stays in the Netherlands in June, compared to approximately 5.5 million a year earlier. The figures include foreign guests who checked in at hotels, holiday parks, campsites, and group accommodations, but not private holiday rentals through platforms like Airbnb.

According to the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions (NBTC), there are various factors behind the increase, including that June was considerably warmer and sunnier than last year. “Moreover, Pentecost fell in June this year,” a spokesperson told AD. The long weekend is always popular for a getaway.

“Whether 2025 will be an absolute record year is too early to say. We don’t yet know how the summer and autumn will develop,” the spokesperson said, but the NBTC expects the number of foreign tourists spending at least one night in the Netherlands to continue growing in the coming years.
