Two grandfathers convicted of sexually abusing step-ganddaughters in separate cases
Two Dutch grandfathers, aged 76 and 63, have been convicted for sexually abusing their step-granddaughters in separate cases in Rotterdam and Leiden.
A 76-year-old Rotterdam man received 120 hours of community service for touching three step-granddaughters when their grandmother left the house, Rijnmond reports. The court found the girls’ accounts credible, though the "most severe allegations were reportedly not fully proven."
The man must undergo therapy but faces no contact ban, as he has not reportedly approached the victims since the abuse.
One girl said in court, “You are not the grandpa I thought you were.” Another said, “I never want to see you again. You are a terrible man.”
In Leiden, a 63-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison for abusing his step-granddaughter, beginning when she was 11, including at least four instances of unprotected penetrative sex. He also reportedly sent messages to his 12-year-old biological granddaughter expressing a desire to "abuse her."
The step-granddaughter was temporarily removed from her home, and the court cited serious violations of trust and lack of accountability. He must pay 15,000 euros in damages to his step-granddaughter and 750 euros to his biological granddaughter, and he is barred from contacting both victims for five years.
