Illusionist stabbed through arm during act with sabers at Scheveningen show
Illusionist Hans Klok was injured during his signature saber act at a show in Scheveningen on Sunday afternoon. In the act, Klok sits chained up in a cardboard box, and audience members stick sabers inside. One went “straight through his arm,” his manager told Omroep West. Klok finished the show before being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Klok told ANP that the accident happened toward the end of the show. “Suddenly, I think: ‘There’s a sword through my arm, I can’t move.’ Someone else on stage saw that there was blood on the sword.”
Klok’s spokesperson told the news wire that the illusionist was bandaged backstage and finished the show. At the hospital, he turned out to be “very lucky,” because despite going staring through his arm, the sword did not cut any muscles or nerves.
“I’ve been doing this job for 46 years, and sometimes you forget the dangers,” Klok said. Audience members were involved with the trick, but Klok has “no one to blame but myself,” he said.
Klok’s next performance in The Hague on Friday will continue as planned. He will also perform the saber trick again. “The incident shows that the profession is not without risks. But this was simply human error,” his management said.
