Musician Lil Kleine avoids trial with community service deal over assault on ex-fiancée
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) has decided to offer the rap musician Lil Kleine 32 hours of community service “to prevent his prosecution for assault,” of his former partner Jaimie Vaes, the OM announced on Wednesday. The 16 days that the 30-year-old rap musician spent in pre-trial detention has been included with community service, meaning that he does not need to do any more community service to complete his sentence. According to the musician’s management, he has accepted the offer.
Jorik Scholten, which is the rap musician’s real name, was arrested in February 2022 on suspicion of “attempted grievous bodily harm or assault” after footage was released of what seemed to be him trapping Vaes’ head in between a car door. Vaes pressed charges for this.
This was not the only incident that Vaes pressed charges for, she said. Scholten claimed that Vaes’ head was not stuck between the car doors and that he did not hit her head with the car door. Vaes ended her relationship with Scholten shortly after the incident. The two were engaged during that time.
The OM thinks that 32 hours of community service is an appropriate settlement. “In this, not only the change in the suspicion that had arisen was taken into account, but also the fact that a considerable amount of time has since passed."
The investigation into the case took three years, and it was completed in January. Based on the investigation, the prosecutor concluded that there is enough evidence to prove that Scholten assaulted Vaes in the overnight evening hours of February 11 leading into February 12, 2022.
The OM also noted the media attention around the case. “The suspect has already suffered consequences as a result of the extensive negative media coverage surrounding this criminal case.” The footage of the incident was released via the online gossip channel of Yvonne Coldeweijer. It was later revealed that Vaes had shared the footage with Coldeweijer.
Lil Kleine is “relieved” that he can close the chapter with his ex after three years. “He is glad that it is now officially confirmed that no one had their head caught in the door and that there was no case of aggravated assault,” his manager said on behalf of the rap musician. “He always recognized that what he did that night was wrong by dragging her out of the car in this way. That is why he accepts the consequences and has accepted the proposal.”
