Dutch police arrest man for registering luxury cars to shield criminal owners
Police have arrested a 45-year-old man from Helmond suspected of registering luxury vehicles in his name to conceal the true owners from authorities, enabling criminals to continue illegal activities, according to NOS.
The car dealer came under suspicion after investigators discovered that a vehicle linked to a major drugs and money laundering investigation was registered under his name. The financial investigation unit of the Zeeland-West-Brabant police grew suspicious and launched a new money laundering inquiry.
The suspect’s name is connected to high-end vehicles including Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin models, as well as exclusive versions of Mercedes and Audi. The combined value of these cars runs into millions of euros.
Authorities arrested the man as a front for criminals and conducted searches at his business and residence. During the money laundering investigation, law enforcement seized more than 4 million euros in valuable items.
