Police make two arrests for Scheveningen violence; Ask other suspects to come forward

The police have made their first two arrests in connection with the riots that occurred in Scheveningen a week ago. A 17-year-old boy from Rotterdam and a 16-year-old boy from The Hague are the first people to be arrested as a result of the disorder.

The Rotterdam resident is suspected of destroying a police car and van. The boy from The Hague is arrested for public violence against police. The news was announced shortly before a debate about the incidents was set to take place at The Hague’s city hall.

Several hundred young people got into a fight together last Thursday near the Kurhaus in Scheveningen after videos were published on TikTok calling for young people to come to Scheveningen.

Violence was also used against police and riot police, with rocks, glass, chairs, and bottles being thrown at the officers. Police were also hit with bicycles, chairs, and tables from the bar terraces. It took several hours before the streets were calm again.

The police have said that they are looking at more arrests and have several suspects on footage. “Suspects can also hand themselves in to the police to prevent officers from picking them up.” The investigation is still ongoing. The police have asked any people who were victims of the violence to report to the police.
