More people expected to fly from Schiphol during May holiday period than last year
Schiphol is expecting longer waiting times during the holiday period in May than last year. The airport is estimating that a total of 3.5 million travelers will use the airport during this holiday period. “We are prepared for all the travelers that will come,” a spokesperson has said.
The airport expects an increase of 6.2 percent in passengers using Schiphol during the May vacation period. Around 3.3 million people used the airport during the same period last year.
Next Friday is expected to be one of the busiest days of the year, with almost 86,000 people set to depart from the airport in Amsterdam. In total, Schiphol is expecting over 180,000 travelers every day during the May holiday period. Arrivals and people stopping for a transfer are also included in this number.
Schiphol is advising passengers to use public transport to travel to the airport because the roads are also expected to be busy, and they are advised to check in online if possible.
Most people are flying to Spain, the United Kingdom, and Italy. The United States, Greece, and Turkey are also popular destinations, and the top 10 for most popular travel destinations during this period is closed out by Portugal, Germany, France, and Switzerland.
