Woman, 42, dies after apartment fire in The Hague; 19-year-old co-resident arrested
A 42-year-old woman has died after being severely injured in a fire that broke out Saturday morning in a portico apartment in the Loosduinen district of The Hague. Authorities confirmed her death on Sunday, according to De Telegraaf.
The fire occurred in a third-floor unit of a residential building on Doctor C. Hofstede de Grootstraat. Police described it as a “short but intense fire.”
Firefighters discovered two seriously injured women at the scene — one inside the apartment, the other on the balcony. Both were taken to the hospital. The 42-year-old woman later died from her injuries. The condition of the second victim has not been released.
Two other residents escaped the apartment in time and did not require hospitalization. Emergency services treated them at the scene.
A fifth resident, a 19-year-old man, fled the burning apartment by moving into a lower-level room. Witnesses reported his location to police. He was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the fire. Police said the suspect lived in the same apartment as the victims. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
