Igloo issue recall of cooling box in the Netherlands due to risk of fingertip injuries
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has notified people of the possible dangers of the cooling boxes made by the manufacturer Igloo. People using the box's drag handle could potentially have their fingertips crushed or amputated, the manufacturer said. Igloo are advising people not to use the item. People are able to register the cooling box on Igloo’s website, and they will then be sent a replacement product.
The drag handle can pinch the fingertips against the cooling box, Igloo explained. The warning applies to the model 90 QT Flip & Tow rolling cooling box if it was manufactured before January 2024. Customers can check the date of manufacture at the bottom of the cooling box.
The American service that warns people about product safety, CPSC, issued a warning regarding the cooling boxes in February. CPSC said at the time that Igloo had received 12 reports of injured fingertips, including amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.
Igloo chose not to respond to questions concerning the number of cooling boxes that have been sold and whether any people in the Netherlands have picked up any injuries as of yet.
