No cyberattack: Dutch Prosecution Service recovers from major system disruption
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) has begun restoring its systems after a widespread disruption forced the agency to disconnect entirely from the internet as a precaution. A spokesperson confirmed that the systems are being restarted, and the process is expected to continue into Saturday afternoon.
The disruption, described as a “persistent failure deep within the system,” was detected on Friday afternoon. At the time, the exact cause was unclear, prompting the OM to take the precautionary measure of isolating itself from external networks to allow for a secure digital investigation.
Authorities have since determined that the disruption was not the result of a cyberattack or security breach. “The cause of the incident was a failure within the system,” an OM spokesperson stated. The decision to shut down internet access ensured that investigators could safely assess the issue without external interference.
The process of restoring full functionality is underway, with systems being gradually brought back online. Full operational capacity is expected to be restored by Saturday afternoon. The OM has not disclosed further technical details about the nature of the failure.
