Video: Gunshots injure father, son standing on a balcony in Rotterdam
A shooting in Rotterdam-Zuid left a 51-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy injured on Wednesday evening. The two victims were standing on the balcony of an apartment when someone shot them from the street. AD reported that the victims are father and son. The police arrested two suspects.
The shooting happened on Rousseaustraat. Several neighbors called the police at around 9:30 p.m. to report shots fired. Responding officers found the injured man and teenager. Emergency services took them to a hospital for treatment. They were hurt, but conscious and able to communicate, the police said.
The suspects fled the scene after the shooting. Witnesses were able to give the police a description of the suspects, resulting in two people being arrested in the area. The police are investigating their involvement in the shooting.
Investigators found around ten bullet casings on the street, witnesses told Rijnmond. The police cordoned off the street and the involved home for trace evidence investigation. A sniffer dog was also deployed.
The motive for the shooting is still unknown, the police said. Investigators asked witnesses and anyone with relevant footage from surveillance cameras, dashcams, or doorbell cameras to contact them.
Wednesday was a busy night for the police in Rotterdam, according to Rijnmond. In addition to the shooting, the police also responded to two explosions in Rotterdam’s Feijenoord neighborhood - one at a chicken restaurant on Beijerlandselaan and one at a home on Zwederstraat. There was also an explosive attack at a home on Willem Marisstraat in Dordrecht.
