One dead, one critically injured after falling into river in IJzendoorn
A 44-year-old man from Lunteren died Saturday afternoon after falling into the Linge River near IJzendoorn. A second man, 45, from Ede, was critically injured and transported to the hospital, police said.
Emergency services were alerted around 3:50 p.m. Multiple ambulances, a trauma helicopter, and several fire department units responded to the scene.
"The two were in a boat before it went wrong. The cause is under investigation," Gelderland police said on X, formally known as Twitter.
A video journalist at the scene reported that the two men fell into the river near a sluice on Pottumsestraat, close to the A15 highway.
"One of the victims was resuscitated but did not survive," police said. The other was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
