Six nights below freezing forecast for the Netherlands

The Netherlands is in for some cold weather in the coming week. The meteorological institute KNMI forecasts six nights of minimums dipping to freezing or below, starting tomorrow night. The days will be cloudy and mostly dry, with some room for sunshine from Sunday. Saturday will still be fairly mild, but after that, maximums will hover around 5 degrees.

This afternoon will be cloudy almost everywhere. The sun may briefly show its face in the north, but the KNMI isn’t too hopeful. Temperatures are around 4 degrees, but the moderate to fairly strong easterly wind will make it feel colder. Overnight will be mostly dry, with occasional splashes of rain in the west. Minimums will range from -1 degree Celsius in the northeast to 3 degrees in the south.

Saturday will start cloudy with an occasional light shower, especially in the west. The sun may occasionally peek through the clouds in the east and south. The day will be less windy, with a weak to moderate east-to-southeasterly wind, and afternoon temperatures will vary from 5 degrees in the north to 10 degrees in the far south. Overnight, minimums will drop to freezing.

The quiet and mostly dry weather will continue into next week. From Sunday, there will gradually be more space for the sun. “At night, the minimum temperature will be below freezing point, and during the day, the maximum temperature will be slightly below the long-term average,” the KNMI said. On average, maximums climb to around 6 degrees during the first 10 days of February.
