KLM X account hacked; unauthorized posts promoting cryptocurrency removed

KLM confirmed its X account was hacked earlier this week, with three unauthorized cryptocurrency-related posts appearing on the airline's official social media account. The airline quickly removed the posts and implemented measures to prevent further incidents of hacking, the spokesperson said.

The removed messages were all crypto-related, mentioning the cryptocurrency Solana and the platform where it can be traded, called pump.fun. One post read: "We looked at the Solana market today. Want to fly with KLM? Destination: MOON!" Another post followed with: "Buckle up, we're preparing for departure," along with a link to pump.fun’s X account. The third post suggested KLM would be supported by an AI agent, a tool used in cryptocurrency markets to automate trading.

KLM is investigating who was responsible for the unauthorized activity.

The spokesperson also clarified that KLM has not used X to respond to customer inquiries since 2023. Passengers now receive support through other channels, such as the airline's website.
