KLM will cancel flights daily amid urgent Boeing 787 maintenance

KLM announced it will cancel several flights in the coming weeks due to urgent maintenance on part of its Boeing 787 fleet. A spokesperson for the airline said the cancellations may affect multiple flights per day, although the exact number will vary daily and cannot yet be confirmed.

The cancellations follow the discovery that incorrect procedures were previously used during maintenance on seven Boeing 787 aircraft. As a result, KLM has initiated accelerated inspections and repairs to address the issue.

“We are already working on the first three aircraft,” the spokesperson confirmed. The airline expects that, following the additional maintenance, the aircraft will be gradually returned to service.

KLM currently operates a fleet of 228 aircraft. Of those, 24 are Boeing 787s, which are primarily used for long-haul international routes. The airline said that passengers affected by the cancellations will be rebooked on alternative flights. In some cases, these will be flights operated by other airlines. Additionally, KLM plans to deploy Boeing 777 aircraft to operate some flights originally scheduled with Boeing 787s.
