Over 35,000 kilograms of illegal fireworks found during police search, two men arrested
Over 35,000 kilograms of illegal fireworks were found "that were ready for the illegal Dutch market" during a search in the German city of Hüven, the police reported. Two men were arrested.
On Thursday, officers from the fireworks team of the Rotterdam unit found around 1,050 kilograms of illegal fireworks during a search of business premises and a garage box in Herwijnen, Gelderland. This discovery prompted the Border Police team to immediately raid a warehouse in Hüven in Germany. During this raid, more than 35,000 kilograms of professional fireworks intended for the illegal Dutch market were found.
Two men aged 57 and 37 from Vuren and Herwijnen were arrested as part of the investigation. Further arrests cannot be ruled out, the police said.
According to the police, heavy fireworks pose a great danger. In particular, the amount of heavy fireworks stored in homes can lead to really dangerous situations for residents and neighbors. For example, a cobra has the same explosive power as a hand grenade. The more cobras, the bigger the explosion. With 150 kilograms of these heavy fireworks, it is possible to cause considerable damage to several houses. According to the police, it is not only the detonation that is dangerous, but also the transportation and storage.
